Magaluf lies 10 miles from Palma and is quite close to both Torre Nova and Palma Nova. It’s about a 15 minute taxi journey from the airport and is one of the best known of all the resorts on the island of Majorca.

The area is home to over a hundred bars and night clubs, and is well known for its lively night life, but it’s also a great destination for a family holiday too. During the daylight hours, the region is best known for its aquatic sports – scuba diving, jet skiing, wind surfing and more are on offer here in the water, and if you prefer to stay on land, then you could try your hand at a round of golf, a little horse back riding, or even a day out with the family go-karting. Although the region lends itself more to activities than lazing on the beach daily there are family beaches locally which are great for kids, and the water is warm and pleasant too.

Dining out here is common, and you’ve got a vast range of choice on offer from fast food outlets to international cuisine and traditional restaurants serving local dishes. It’s not as expensive as you might think either and eating a traditional Spanish meal might cost in the region of 12-16 euros.

The Western Water Park is a ten minutes away from Magaluf and is the best known water park on the island. This theme park is great for family fun and has lots of rides to choose from. La Bestia (The Beast) which is a thirty metre high water drop is one of the most exciting rides you’ll come across, and Olivers water show where you can watch water acrobats showing off their talents is great. There are lots of water slides and the park is designed for all age groups so as long as you don’t mind getting wet it’s a fab place to take the family.

Another not to miss attraction is the Pirates adventure. The show attracts around 200,000 visitors every year, and many people claim it as the highlight of their holiday. This fabulous show has two versions however, an early family showing, and a later ‘uncut’ version which is suitable for adults only!

Many of the beaches here have climbing frames and play areas for the kids away from the water towards the back of the beaches, and all around the island you can enjoy trips out on boats many of which have glass bottom viewing panels so you can see down into the underwater world beneath.

A ten minute bus journey towards Palma will take you to Marineland at Costa d’en Blanes. Here you can enjoy a fascinating dolphin show as well as seeing many other marine animals including sharks, sea lions and penguins.
